About the Scheme

What is the purpose of the Scheme?

The purpose of the Scheme is to provide retirement, death and disability benefits to ministers, missionaries and pastoral workers of the Baptist Churches, ACTS Churches NZ and other participating church organisations.

A separate membership section is available to pastoral leadership students to provide a death and disability benefit.

In what form are benefits paid?

Benefits from the Scheme are paid as a lump sum or regular payments can be arranged.

How does the Scheme compare against a KiwiSaver scheme?

Class A Membership

This website is operated by Baptist Union Superannuation Scheme (BUSS) and is not endorsed by, or affiliated with, the New Zealand government or Inland Revenue. BUSS is using the KiwiSaver trade mark and logo under licence from Inland Revenue. For further information on KiwiSaver click here.
Eligibility
Minister, Missionary or Pastoral Worker 
Must be a NZ citizen or permanent resident
Charitable status
Investment earnings are exempt from income tax
Investment earnings are taxed at the member’s Prescribed Investor Rate (10.5%, 17.5% or 28%)
Member Investment Choice
A balanced fund
(target of 50% growth assets, 50% income assets)
A variety of options to suit different investor profiles
Death and Disablement Insurance cover
Member Compulsory Contributions
Minimum contribution of 6% of your gross remuneration excluding any allowances

First 4% is locked in
Minimum contribution of 3% of total before tax pay
